Timeless Victorian With A Contemporary Twist.

Throstle’s Nest Farm takes its name from a farm that once occupied the site and had been replaced by modern agricultural sheds and a 1980s house. Our brief was to redevelop the entire site, utilising the available Greenbelt volume to create an elegant, Victorian-inspired family home. In addition to creating a large four-bedroom house, the brief included substantial garaging for six cars and an office that was conveniently located but distinct from the house.

The proposed home is full of traditional features including flying trusses, finials, deep Eaves with bracket and frieze detailing, and stone bay windows. In stylish contrast, a modern floor plan ticks all the boxes, with a gallery landing, an open plan family room connected to an orangery, a utility room, boot room with dog wash area and two further reception rooms. While the first floor boasts four ensuite bedrooms including a stunning master suite. To accommodate the client’s office and storage requirements, an outbuilding links to the main house. This traditionally subservient secondary use incorporates a covered access through to a secure enclosed courtyard with car stables. A buttressed wall completes the enclosure, screening the cars from the expansive landscaped gardens. Crafted using heritage materials, natural stone, a buff brick blend and clay Rosemary roof tiles offer a warm tone. This is accentuated by sage green timber windows and juxtaposed with black painted timber to the roof structure, clearly defining the intricate forms of the gabled roof.
