Finding elegant solutions for challenging sites.

Utilising our extensive experience of planning applications in conservation areas, we provided an elegant solution for the replacement of a 1970s house on a steeply sloping site. We created a contemporary reimagining of a Victorian Villa that complemented the historic neighbourhood, with an unconventional approach to this once-traditional house. Playing with proportions, the new house now wraps around one side and to the rear of the plot, where a steep sandstone bank compromises a typical plot layout. The private gardens are set at the front, with all rooms in the house benefitting from their green outlook and privacy achieved through considered level changes and planted screening.

Set over four floors, this 7,500 square foot house is designed with all the accommodation you would expect, as well as a luxury gym and leisure space with a 12-metre swimming pool sitting in the sandstone bank, and a double garage completing the accommodation at level 1. On level 2 is a stunning panoramic family room, lounge and access to an annex. While level 3 boasts a private roof terrace leading from the master bedroom, a second bedroom and the upper floor of the annex. In the roof space you’ll find a further two generous bedroom suites. Discovering a unique solution to this challenging site has provided direct access to outside space from levels 1 to 3 with all rooms enjoying the south-facing raised garden, bringing the outside, in.
