Our design-focused clients purchased a soulless bungalow in the popular town of Aughton as a blank canvas to create their forever home from which to enjoy retirement. Using the simple rectilinear footprint of the original bungalow as a starting point, we concealed the front and rear elevations behind floating walls, retaining the original structure, while dramatically transforming the appearance. These two floating elements, monolithic in form, are a refined statement in carefully crafted brickwork. Utilising elegant linear bricks, rarely used in the UK, complements the horizontal nature of the bungalow, and expert craftsmanship by experienced bricklayers and metal workers beautifully marries the sharp detailing of aluminium and masonry.

The best advice we can give if you are looking to engage Paul and his team is prepare to be surprised at the constant fresh and new concepts that they somehow manage to firstly think of, design, then more importantly deliver.
To the front of the building, the floating wall with its flying brick beam provides depth and layering, framing the new entrance porch and garage. To the rear, a similar wall defines the limit of the new extension, and doubles as a screen to the garden. The half-metre deep monolithic nature of this wall is expressed through deep set doors and windows that are further enhanced with oblique chamfered reveal and head details using bespoke bricks. Our in-house interior designers and architects worked together to create a floor plan inspired by luxury penthouse apartments. Avoiding doors to the reception rooms allowed for flow while working with the existing layout. Secondary uses including utility, pantry, WC, walk-in wardrobes and an ensuite are placed in the centre of the plan to ensure the primary reception rooms and bedrooms enjoy the garden views.
