Once a 17th century country pub, The Brook House Inn - now known as Brook House - sits in a former quarry in Heskin, Lancashire, surrounded by lush greenery, a stream and its own lake. We completely transformed this property by dismantling most of the original sandstone structure and re-building it. Using both the original and carefully sourced matching materials pointed in traditional lime mortar, we installed timber sliding sash windows and stone surrounds to complete the look. Saving the building from ruin, it was remodelled with sympathetic extensions to the front and side elevations, as well as a modern aluminium and glass box extension to the rear. This additional space is designed with an upper viewing deck to enjoy the newly landscaped gardens.

Inside, the house has four generous bedrooms all with walk-in wardrobes, ensuite bathrooms and seating areas, as well as a SieMatic kitchen, cinema room, and a bespoke walnut staircase with glass balustrades and a hand-crafted leather handrail. As a nod to its previous life, Brook House also features a wine cellar which can be viewed through a glass floor in the dining hall - a playful feature we loved creating for our client. Technology includes a Control4 home automation package, underfloor heating, and renewable energy solutions such as heat recovery and air source heat pumps. Outside, gabion retaining walls create levels to the rear of the two-storey garage and leisure complex, which overlooks the tranquil lake and garden.
