Standing within a former convent walled garden, the extension at Berthold Gate is all about embracing outdoor living. Our brief was to bring the family together in a stylish extension to a recently purchased stock executive home. The family are keen cooks and like to entertain, so wanted to connect the inside with nature and the unusually large woodland plot, acting as the perfect backdrop for socialising. Constructing the family’s vision from start to finish, as well as having a hand in developing the final layout and finishes, this project played to our love for creating modern, usable spaces.

We are thrilled at the transformation Wickstead made to our home. as guests visit, we just hear ‘wow’. The talking point is always how exactly the roof seems to be floating in mid air. We considered carefully which builder to put our trust in, as we were living in the house throughout, and I am happy to say our trust in Wickstead was utterly well founded. Respectful, polite, considerate and above all friendly, the whole team became like a part of our extended family. The care and respect shown to our neighbours also meant that there was never a single complaint. The renovation turned our home into something unique, and we are very proud of it.

The sliding open corner extension complete with extensive glazing and a cantilever roof houses an open plan family room with kitchen, dining and living space, as well as a state-of-the-art gym. A seamless floor finish connects the inside with the outside, which is enhanced further by the scene-setting internal and external lighting design with mood lighting options. Other details in this stylish extension include underfloor heating and home automation. Of course, the external features here are very much part of the design, with an outdoor kitchen and bar, seating, and dining area, fitted out with a wood fired pizza oven, barbecue, tapanyaki, and a fire pit as well as a spa-like jacuzzi area. All these elements hit the brief in terms of creating a social space, while the green living roof which overlooks it all, is the perfect finishing touch for a building which embraces the nature that surrounds it.
